Baby Steps delayed to September 23 after Hollow Knight: Silksong surprise release date
Publisher Devolver Digital and developers Bennett Foddy, Gabe Cuzzillo and Maxi Boch have delayed the walking simulator Baby Steps from September 8 to September 23. The move was made after Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong would release on September 4 — a date that many indie teams wanted to avoid competing with.
The delay was announced with a short humorous clip showing Baby Steps protagonist Nate attempting to climb a replica of Silksong’s Hornet and falling into the dirt. In a press release, Devolver described Nate as “the wary, onesie-donned failson” who “stumbled” when trying to launch the week after Silksong’s surprise release.
Why the delay?
Indie teams often shift release dates to avoid launching at the same time as major releases that dominate community attention. In this case, developers chose a later date to give Baby Steps room to breathe rather than competing with Hollow Knight: Silksong’s buzz.
