Instagram Adds Inbox Management Tools for Creators
Instagram is rolling out new inbox management features aimed at making direct messages more manageable for high-profile creators. The tools are targeted at creators with large followings and Professional accounts, and include smart filters, custom folders and shortcuts designed to prioritize important messages.
Key features
- Multi-select filters: Quickly sort and triage messages to find important correspondences.
- Create, edit & remove filters: Customize which messages are surfaced based on your preferences.
- Custom folders & reorderable shortcuts: Create folders that reflect your workflow and pin the ones you use most.
Instagram says the tools aim to give creators “the freedom to explore their creativity while building workflows that work best for them.” Currently the feature set is available to Professional accounts and creators with more than 100,000 followers.
Why it matters
Popular creators can receive hundreds of messages daily, including brand requests, fan mail and PR outreach. These inbox tools should reduce noise and speed up response workflows, helping creators focus on content and partnerships.
Notes & related changes
- Instagram recently added other consumer-facing updates as well, such as a map to locate friends and an option to reset recommendation history.
- Official reporting on these creator-focused inbox tools is available via TechCrunch: TechCrunch — Instagram upgrades DMs with focus on creators.
If you’re a creator with a large following, these tools may help streamline your day-to-day. Thoughts? Are these features useful enough, or should Instagram expand them to more accounts?
