Acclaim Returns — But It’s a New Company
Acclaim Entertainment is back as a revived company that bought the old trademark. The new Acclaim says it will focus on publishing indie games and exploring revivals of classic franchises. The team behind the revival includes industry veterans and advisors tied to Acclaim’s past.
What they do and don’t own
Contrary to some hopes, the revived Acclaim does not currently own the most iconic Acclaim-era IPs. Franchises like NBA Jam, Double Dragon and Mortal Kombat are owned by other publishers, so don’t expect immediate returns of those. Lesser-known Acclaim originals such as Turok, Shadow Man and Re-Volt would be easier to license or buy, but there’s no confirmation yet.
Indie support and potential impact
Beyond nostalgia, Acclaim plans to offer funding, marketing and PR support to smaller studios. If they pick strong indie projects, that could have more lasting impact than yet another nostalgia-driven reboot.
