Amazon’s all-new Kindle Scribe lineup — summary
Amazon introduced the third-generation Kindle Scribe family with three configurations:
- Entry model: monochrome display, no front light — $429
- Front-lit monochrome model: LED front lights — $499
- Kindle Scribe Colorsoft: first Scribe with a color display — $629
Design & hardware
The new Scribe has a slimmer, symmetrical 11-inch display with much smaller bezels. Amazon folded electronics behind the display to shrink thickness to 5.4mm and weight to about 400 g (0.88 lb). The display uses fewer layers (no anti-glare film, textured glass for pen friction, integrated touch) and miniaturized LED front lights on lit models.
Stylus
The pen features stronger magnets for a more secure attachment, a slightly thicker ergonomic shape, a rubberized eraser top, and a programmable action button.
Performance & writing
New custom chip and more memory deliver up to ~40% faster page turns. Monochrome models target <12 ms writing latency; the Colorsoft measures about 14 ms, producing very responsive handwriting with minimal parallax.
Colorsoft: color e-ink
The Colorsoft uses a color filter plus LEDs and a new rendering engine to give more vivid, distinct hues than some competitors. Colors are still muted compared to LCD/AMOLED but noticeably better than previous E Ink color implementations.
Software & cloud
Amazon refreshed the Kindle home page with a Search bar, a “Quick notes” area, a “Jump back into” section, and a new Workspace (improved folder system). The Search is AI-powered and can index and summarize handwritten notes across notebooks. Cloud integrations include Google Drive and OneDrive (and upcoming OneNote support). A “Send to Alexa+” feature is planned to let Alexa access and remember content from your Scribe.
Availability & price
Amazon says the new Kindle Scribe models will be available later this year with these starting prices: $429 (entry), $499 (front-lit), $629 (Colorsoft).
