Apple Pencil 1: 10 years and still in sale

Apple Pencil (1st generation) — 10 years later

On 9 September 2015 Apple introduced the Apple Pencil. A decade on, the original (1st‑generation) Apple Pencil is still found for sale and — unlike many gadgets — has become more expensive over time.

What happened

The Apple Pencil debuted in 2015 as Apple’s stylus for iPad, aimed at drawing, note‑taking and precision input. Over the years Apple has released newer styluses (Apple Pencil 2 and Apple Pencil Pro), but the 1st‑gen model remains available from retailers and in some markets.

Compatibility (overview)

  • Compatible with older iPad models such as early iPad Pro models and several standard iPad generations (check Apple support for an exact compatibility list).

Where to find it

You can still find the 1st‑generation Apple Pencil from third‑party retailers. Example: Search for Apple Pencil (1st generation) on Amazon (affiliate link).
