DB Navigator integrates rental bikes and e-scooters
The Deutsche Bahn has expanded the DB Navigator app to show rental bicycles and electric scooters nationwide. Users can now see available shared bikes and scooters across Germany in the app. However, an important limitation remains: booking the vehicles is currently possible only in selected cities and metropolitan areas.
What works
- The DB Navigator displays nearby shared bikes and e-scooters from partner providers.
- Availability is visible across Germany in the app’s Nearby menu.
- For booking, the app redirects users to the respective partner’s app (for example, Call a Bike or Dott), where registration and rental are completed.
Limitations
- Direct booking through DB Navigator is not available everywhere — only in selected cities where partners have integrated booking support.
- Some features (like live locations and map overlays) perform better in the mobile app than on the website.
Partners and integration
DB is progressively integrating external sharing services (bike-sharing, scooter-sharing, car-sharing, and on-demand shuttles) to make the DB Navigator a one-stop platform for multimodal mobility. When a vehicle is booked, users are typically forwarded to the partner provider to finish the rental.
How to try it
- Open the DB Navigator app and go to the “Nearby” (In der Nähe) section.
- Tap a listed bike or scooter to view details; if booking is supported, you will be forwarded to the partner app.
- If you don’t have the partner app installed, you will be prompted to install it and register there.
