Final Cut Camera 2.0: Pro features land on iPhone

Final Cut Camera 2.0 — Pro features arrive on iPhone

Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.0, a major update that brings professional video tools to compatible iPhones (debuting with the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max). The update adds ProRes RAW recording, genlock synchronization, Open Gate sensor use, Apple Log 2 and expanded timecode options — features typically found in high-end production workflows.

Key features

  • ProRes RAW: Capture unprocessed sensor data for maximum post-production flexibility (exposure, color temperature, tint, demosaicing).
  • Genlock: Frame-accurate synchronization with external reference for multi-camera shoots.
  • Open Gate: Use the full sensor area rather than a cropped window for wider field-of-view and greater reframing room.
  • Apple Log 2: Wider color gamut for improved grading.
  • Timecode options: Time of Day and external timecode support for tight synchronization.
  • High-bitrate ProRes: ProRes up to 4K60 via the new 200mm telephoto on iPhone 17 Pro.

Workflow notes

Final Cut Camera 2.0 is designed to integrate with Final Cut Pro on Mac and iPad, enabling a smooth mobile-to-desktop editing pipeline. Genlock and external timecode support make the iPhone a viable option for multi-camera shoots and on-location production where sync and color fidelity matter.

Availability

The update shipped alongside the iPhone 17 Pro announcements and is expected to roll out through the App Store. Check the Final Cut Camera app entry for exact availability on your device.
