Instagram fixes Stories reach bug
Instagram confirmed a bug was reducing the reach of some users’ Stories when they posted multiple Stories in a single day. Adam Mosseri announced the fix, saying this was not the intended behavior and that posting multiple Stories won’t negatively affect overall reach — especially your first Story.
“People were complaining about getting less reach with their Stories if they posted lots of Stories in the same day. That is not at all the intended behavior of Instagram.” — Adam Mosseri
Why this matters
For creators who rely on reach to grow their audience or earn income, this bug discouraged frequent Story posting. With the fix, creators can post multiple Stories without worrying about an automatic reach penalty. That doesn’t guarantee every Story will be widely watched, but it removes an unintentional disincentive.
How creators should respond
- Monitor your Story views over the next few days to see changes in reach.
- Keep posting consistently — your first Story tends to get the most attention.
- Continue experimenting with content and posting cadence to optimize engagement.
