Lenovo Legion Go 2 hands-on: big upgrades, higher price
Lenovo has unveiled more details about the Legion Go 2 at IFA 2025. The follow-up keeps the original’s detachable-controller design and adds major internal upgrades aimed at high-end portable PC gaming.
Key specs
- Display: 8.8-inch OLED, 144Hz variable refresh rate, VESA HDR TrueBlack 1000
- Processor: up to AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
- Memory & storage: up to 32GB RAM, up to 2TB PCIe Gen4 SSD + microSD slot
- Battery: 74Whr (about 50% larger than original)
- Controls: detachable controllers with Hall Effect joysticks, FPS/vertical mouse mode, built-in touchpad
- Ports & extras: dual USB4, kickstand, bundled case
Impressions
The Legion Go 2 refines what made the original attractive — a large OLED, solid connectivity and detachable controllers — while significantly boosting performance and battery life. The device remains relatively chunky due to its 8.8-inch screen. The controller detachment method hasn’t changed and still feels clunkier compared with newer magnetic systems like the Switch 2.
Price & availability
Expected to go on sale in October 2025 with a starting price around $1,049 (a notable increase from the original’s $699 launch). Higher-tier configs (Z2 Extreme, max RAM/storage) will cost more.
Verdict
If you want a Windows-based, high-performance portable and don’t mind the heft or the premium price, the Legion Go 2 is worth watching. For budget-conscious buyers, the price jump makes rivals like the Steam Deck more attractive.
