Recap: Biggest Announcements from Nintendo Direct (Sept 2025)
Nintendo’s September Direct was jam-packed. Below are the top highlights, release dates, and where to find more information.
Mario’s 40th Anniversary & Galaxy remasters
Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch on October 2 (available separately or as a bundle). A Switch 2 version will support 4K and is available as a combined physical cartridge.
Mario Movie
The next movie is titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, due in US cinemas on April 3.
Switch 2-first Mario games
- Mario Tennis Fever — coming to Switch 2 in February.
- Yoshi and the Mysterious Book — Switch 2 platformer arriving next spring.
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder — Switch 2 version with new multiplayer modes coming next spring.
Donkey Kong Bananza DLC — out now
Paid expansion DK Island & Emerald Rush ($20) is available today. Also: a demo for the main game is now live on the eShop.
Pokémon Pokopia
A new Pokémon life-sim where you play as a transformed Ditto, building a paradise for Pokémon. Coming to Switch 2 in 2026.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
A new turn-based tactical RPG in the Fire Emblem series announced for Switch 2 (2026).
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond & Hades 2
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond — launches on Switch and Switch 2 on Dec 4.
- Hades 2 — launches on Switch and Switch 2 on Sept 25 (PC exit early access same day; cross-save supported; Switch 2 supports 120fps docked).
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Hack-and-slash title coming to Switch 2 on Nov 6. Two-player co-op and many playable characters announced.
AAA third-party ports to Switch 2
- Resident Evil Requiem (and RE7 & RE Village) — February 27 release on Switch 2.
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade — arriving on Switch 2 on January 22.
Indie classics on Switch 2
- Overcooked 2 — Switch 2 version with 4K, 60fps, GameShare and CameraPlay (holiday season).
- Stardew Valley — free upgrade for current Switch owners; GameShare, mouse support, 4-player splitscreen and 8-player online (this fall).
- Human: Fall Flat — Switch 2 version coming Spring 2026 with mouse controls, GameShare and eight-player multiplayer.
- Powerwash Simulator 2 — planned for this fall on Switch 2 (date TBA).
Suika Game Planet
Sequel with a circular-stage twist; coming to Switch and Switch 2 this winter with GameShare for up to four players.
Virtual Boy on Switch Online
Virtual Boy games will be added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack. To get the intended experience Nintendo announced two accessories: a $100 plastic tabletop device and a $25 cardboard version compatible with Switch and Switch 2.
