Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra — Hands-on overview (S Pen, DeX, AI, specs)

Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra — Hands-on overview

Samsung’s 11th-generation Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is a premium 14.8-inch Android tablet focused on productivity and creativity. It pairs a large AMOLED 120Hz display with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, an 11,600mAh battery, a redesigned S Pen, upgraded DeX multitasking and Google Gemini Live AI integration.

Key specs

  • Display: 14.8″ AMOLED, 2960 × 1848, 120Hz, up to ~1,600 nits
  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 9400+
  • RAM & storage: up to 16GB RAM, storage from 256GB (expandable via microSD)
  • Battery: 11,600mAh (45W fast charging stated)
  • Connectivity: Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB‑C
  • Cameras: 13MP rear, 12MP front, additional 8MP ultrawide on Ultra
  • OS: Android 16 with One UI 8
  • Other: IP68 rating, in-screen fingerprint, magnetic S Pen dock

S Pen & accessories

The new S Pen has a hexagonal grip to mimic a No.2 pencil and a more conical nib for scribbling and sketching. It uses EMR (no Bluetooth), so it doesn’t need charging and attaches magnetically to the tablet. Samsung has repositioned the pogo pins to the rear, so older keyboard covers are incompatible — expect new keyboard cases (the Pro keyboard may ship later).

Productivity & AI

One UI 8 brings improved DeX multitasking (Extended Mode to wirelessly extend to other screens, up to four customizable workspaces) and Galaxy AI overlays in apps like Notes and Browser. Google Gemini Live support promises more natural assistant conversations. The faster NPU should make Writing Assist and Drawing Assist feel snappier.

Display, build & battery

Despite its large 14.8″ panel the S11 Ultra is very thin (~5.1mm) and light for its size. Samsung’s AMOLED delivers vibrant colors and high brightness; the panel supports 120Hz for smoother animations. Samsung estimates ~13 hours of mixed use; the 11,600mAh cell should be generous for mobile work, though real-world testing is pending.

Price & who it’s for

Starting price is roughly $1,200 for the base Ultra model, making it a premium buy — often pricier than many laptops and excluding keyboard and other accessories. If you rely on tablets as laptop replacements, are an artist wanting color sketching, or just want a thin, large touchscreen for media and productivity, the Tab S11 Ultra is worth considering.

Verdict

The Tab S11 Ultra looks like Samsung’s most capable Android tablet yet — ultra-thin, powerful, and built for creative and productivity workflows. The main trade-offs are cost and accessory extras. Would you trade your laptop for this as your main portable work machine?
