Spotify Lossless Rolls Out to Premium Users — What You Need to Know
Spotify has begun rolling out Spotify Lossless for Premium subscribers at no additional cost. The feature (up to 24‑bit/44.1 kHz FLAC) started rolling out on September 10, 2025 and will reach Premium users in more than 50 markets by the end of October.
Where and when
Initial availability includes the US, UK, Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden, with broader rollout continuing through October 2025.
Devices and compatibility
Lossless is available on mobile, desktop and tablet Spotify apps and many Spotify Connect‑compatible devices, including models from Sony, Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices is expected to follow next month.
How to enable
- Open the Spotify app and tap your profile icon (top left).
- Go to Settings & Privacy > Media Quality.
- Enable Lossless for Wi‑Fi, cellular and/or downloads. Note: you must enable it on each device you want to use.
Practical notes
- Lossless streaming uses more data than other quality levels; Spotify provides separate settings for Wi‑Fi, cellular and downloads so you can manage data use.
- Spotify Lossless is best experienced over Wi‑Fi with wired (non‑Bluetooth) headphones or speakers — Bluetooth currently lacks the bandwidth to carry true lossless audio, so Bluetooth streams will still be compressed.
- Tracks in lossless may take slightly longer to start while devices cache them to avoid stutters.
Why this matters
This rollout brings Spotify in line with competitors offering lossless at no extra cost and marks the end of a long wait after years of teases about a HiFi tier. Spotify’s lossless tops standard streaming quality, though its 24‑bit/44.1 kHz ceiling is lower than some services that offer higher-resolution lossless tiers.
“The wait is finally over; we’re so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers,” said Gustav Gyllenhammar, Spotify’s VP of subscriptions.
