Google limits free Nano Banana Pro image generation and reduces free Gemini 3 Pro prompts

Google tightens free access to Nano Banana Pro images and reduces free Gemini 3 Pro prompts

AI image generation on screen

Google has reduced free usage limits for its latest generative AI tools. Free users can now generate two images per day with the Nano Banana Pro model (down from three). The company also notes reduced “basic access” for free Gemini 3 Pro prompts — earlier rollouts guaranteed more free prompts per day but those allowances have been scaled back.

According to Google’s support notice, the changes are driven by very high demand and the company says limits may change frequently and reset daily. Paid subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra are not affected; their higher prompt/image quotas remain the same (typically 100 and 500 prompts per day, respectively).

Key points

  • Nano Banana Pro: Free image generation limited to 2 images/day (previously 3).
  • Gemini 3 Pro: Free users now have “basic access” with lower daily prompt allowances than the initial rollout.
  • Paid tiers unaffected: AI Pro and AI Ultra users keep their larger daily quotas (100/500 prompts).
  • Limits can change: Google warns usage caps may be updated frequently and reset each day due to demand.

Why this matters

As generative models grow in popularity, providers are increasingly managing free access to preserve capacity and ensure reliable performance for paying customers. Users who rely on these tools for frequent creative work may find the new caps restrictive and could consider paid plans if they need larger daily quotas.

Discussion: Are daily quotas for free AI features reasonable, or should companies offer more generous free tiers? Would you upgrade to a paid plan for higher limits?
