DaVinci Resolve 20.3 brings M5 Mac support up to 32K, plus performance and fixes
Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 20.3. The update expands support for Apple Silicon — specifically Macs running the new M5 chips — and enables playback and workflow handling of resolutions up to 32K on compatible systems. Alongside that headline improvement, 20.3 includes a range of performance enhancements and numerous bug fixes.
The new M5 optimizations promise better utilization of Apple’s latest SoC capabilities; users on supported hardware should see faster rendering and smoother high‑resolution timelines. As always, the update bundle addresses stability issues and small feature improvements across editing, color, Fairlight audio and Fusion compositing modules.
What to expect
- Up to 32K support on M5 Macs: Enables editing and playback of extremely high‑resolution media on qualifying Apple systems — useful for users working on large VFX, IMAX‑style projects or very high‑res delivery.
- Performance optimizations: Better CPU/GPU utilization on Apple Silicon, which should reduce render times and improve timeline responsiveness for complex projects.
- Bug fixes and stability: A number of fixes across Resolve’s modules to improve day‑to‑day reliability.
Before you update
- Back up your active projects and databases before installing the update to avoid any migration issues.
- Check plugin and codec compatibility — third‑party OFX plugins or codec packs may need updates to work with 20.3 and Apple M5 systems.
- Confirm system requirements and that your Mac is running a compatible macOS version — high‑res workflows can also demand fast NVMe storage and ample RAM.
