Samsung Wallet gains Digital Key support for Porsche Macan and Cayenne Electric
Samsung announced that Porsche owners will soon be able to unlock and start select models using Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key. Support initially covers the Porsche Macan and the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric, with rollout in Europe starting in December and a broader global release aligned to Porsche’s vehicle launches.
Digital Key works over secure UWB (Ultra Wideband) or NFC connections and is available on many Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S20, Note20, Galaxy Z Fold2 and newer phones. If a phone is lost or stolen, owners can remotely lock or delete the Digital Key from Samsung Wallet to protect their vehicle.
What the feature includes
- Unlock, lock and start compatible Porsche models using a Galaxy phone via UWB or NFC.
- Remote key management: lock or delete a Digital Key if the paired phone is compromised.
- Support on a wide range of Samsung devices back to Galaxy S20 / Note20 generations.
- European rollout in December, then global availability tied to Porsche vehicle launches.
Context and background
Samsung has expanded Digital Key support to other automakers before, adding select Volvo and Polestar EVs earlier in 2025. The Digital Key standard has been evolving since its introduction in 2021, and manufacturers increasingly adopt UWB for secure, proximity‑based access (UWB is generally more precise and harder to spoof than NFC).
Security and convenience trade-offs
Digital car keys promise convenience — no physical key to fumble with, and easier sharing or revocation. But they raise security considerations: phone theft, account compromise and device backups can all affect access. Samsung’s ability to remotely delete keys and rely on UWB proximity mitigations helps, but owners should enable device security (biometrics, PIN) and keep Samsung account protections (two‑factor authentication) enabled.
How to get it
Owners of supported Porsche models should watch for a software update or dealer notification when Digital Key becomes available in their market. On the phone side, ensure Samsung Wallet is up to date and that your Galaxy device is listed among supported models. For immediate details, consult Porsche or Samsung dealer communications when the feature launches.
