Spotify adds Music Videos to the US & Canada — Premium beta rolls out

Spotify has started rolling out Music Videos in beta to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada. The feature brings official music videos plus formats like live performances and covers to Spotify’s apps on TV, desktop, iOS and Android.

Access is simple for eligible users: open a track and tap “Switch to video” — playback continues from where the audio left off, and you can return to background listening by tapping “Switch to audio.” Turning your device to landscape lets you go full screen.

Why this matters

  • Spotify previously lacked video rights in the US; a recent deal with the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) cleared the way for video content.
  • Music Videos aim to boost discovery and engagement: Spotify claims users who watch a music video on the platform are 34% more likely to stream the song again the following week.
  • Spotify says it intends to build a “best‑in‑class” video experience to compete with big players such as YouTube and TikTok, expanding its role beyond audio streaming.

Where you can watch

The beta is available to Premium users in the US and Canada across supported devices: TV apps, desktop clients and iOS/Android mobile apps (note: availability depends on device and region, and Spotify plans to expand the video catalog over time).

Discussion: Will you use Music Videos on Spotify — and do you think the service can rival YouTube or TikTok for music video discovery?
