Google’s $30M Child Privacy Settlement

Google has reached a $30M settlement over a lawsuit accusing it of illegally collecting data from children using YouTube without parental consent and targeting them with ads. The lawsuit could involve 35 to 45 million young users, aged 13 or younger, who watched YouTube between July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2020. The settlement is pending judicial approval.\n\nThis follows a previous $170M fine by the FTC in 2019 for similar instances of privacy violations under COPPA. Google and YouTube had agreed then to stop collecting data from content aimed at children.\n\nCheck out more detailed information in the original article on Reuters or tech news sites.
