Qi2 Wireless Charging on Android: Current Status and Updates

The Qi2 wireless charging spec, announced in early 2023, has been slow to gain traction among Android phone manufacturers, despite its benefits. While iPhone users have seamlessly integrated Qi2 accessories, Android adoption lags. Apple, a member of the Wireless Power Consortium, leverages its MagSafe technology to aid Qi2 compliance.

Several Android devices now incorporate Qi2 technology, including the HMD Skyline and Google Pixel 10 family, each having different capabilities. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is noteworthy for supporting up to 25 watts, unlike its siblings which offer 15 watts. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series and the OnePlus 13 claim Qi2 readiness but require additional accessories (like magnetic cases) for optimal use, as their built-in magnets are inadequate.

Motorola hints at impending Qi2-compatible models, promising future integration. As Qi2 continues to expand its footprint in the Android market, stay tuned for ongoing updates.
