Google Vids: Edit videos directly in Google Drive (desktop)
Google has rolled out Google Vids, an in-browser video editor integrated into Google Drive. When previewing a video in Drive you may see an Open button in the top-right; clicking it opens the clip in Google Vids where you can trim, add text, add music and make other edits. A new file is created after editing, so remember to save or export your changes.
Key features
- Trim video clips, add text overlays and music, and use simple editing tools.
- Creates a new file after editing — export or save to keep edits.
- Supported formats: MP4, QuickTime, OGG, WebM.
- Clip limits: up to 35 minutes runtime and 4 GB per file.
- Desktop browser support: recent versions of Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge (Windows).
Availability and access
Google Vids is limited to paid users: several Google Workspace business and enterprise plans, nonprofits, Education subscribers, and users with Gemini Education/Gemini Education Premium add-ons. Google AI Pro and Ultra customers also get access, as do organizations that previously purchased Gemini Business/Enterprise add-ons. Google Vids is enabled by default for supported organizations unless the admin blocks access to Google Docs.
How to use
- Open Google Drive in a supported desktop browser and preview a video file.
- Click the “Open” button (top-right) to launch Google Vids.
- Make edits (trim, add text/music), then save or export the new file.
Notes
This is a handy way to edit videos already stored in Drive, but it’s not currently available to free accounts and it’s desktop-only. For official usage details and troubleshooting, see Google’s support page below.
