WhatsApp integrates AI „Writing Help“ to assist message composition
Meta has begun rolling out a new AI-powered feature for WhatsApp called „Writing Help“ (sometimes shown as „Writing Help“). The tool offers message suggestions to improve tone, clarity and grammar before sending, and provides multiple alternative phrasings.
What it does
- Suggests at least three alternative phrasings for a message.
- Offers tone presets such as Rephrase, Professional, Funny, Supportive and Proofread.
- Runs processing locally on the device via Meta’s Private Processing approach to help preserve privacy.
- Recipients are not notified if AI was used to modify a message.
Rollout status
The feature is currently being tested in beta: iOS TestFlight users and select Android beta testers have access. It is not enabled by default and must be switched on manually in supported beta builds.
Privacy and usage notes
Meta says the AI runs locally and does not store or share message content for this feature. As with any beta, availability may expand gradually by region and platform.
