Typepad is shutting down on Sept 30, 2025 — export your blogs now

Typepad, one of the early hosted blogging services that launched alongside WordPress, has announced it will permanently shut down on September 30, 2025. After that date users will no longer be able to access account settings, blogs, or any associated content.

What you need to know

• Shutdown date: September 30, 2025.
• Export option: You can export your content before the shutdown in Movable Type Import Format (MTIF), which can be imported into WordPress or other platforms.
• Billing: Typepad will stop charging subscriptions starting August 31, 2025. If you made a recent payment, Typepad says it will attempt to issue a prorated refund to the payment method on file.
• Signups: Typepad stopped accepting new signups around 2020 but continued supporting existing customers until this recent decision.

How to export

From Typepad’s account/blog management area, use the export tool to download your site in MTIF. Once downloaded, you can import the file into WordPress (Importing Content) or another compatible platform.

If you need help with migration, consider exporting early and testing the import to confirm all content transfers correctly.
