Apple blocks iTorrent downloads in EU via AltStore PAL
Apple has revoked the alternative distribution/notarization rights for iTorrent, a BitTorrent client by developer Daniil “XITRIX” Vinogradov, preventing users in the EU from installing the app via AltStore PAL and other third-party iOS stores.
Key points
- Apple revoked the developer’s ability to distribute iTorrent through third-party marketplaces in the EU.
- This move comes despite the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which requires Apple to permit alternative app stores.
- Neither the developer nor AltStore PAL has received a clear explanation from Apple; responses have been generic and non-substantive.
Developer & AltStore response
Daniil “XITRIX” Vinogradov told reporters he was not contacted by Apple and is unsure whether the revocation was his fault or Apple’s. AltStore PAL co-founder Shane Gill confirmed the company is in contact with Apple but hasn’t received a justification for the takedown.
