Firefox for iOS: ‘Shake to Summarize’ brings Apple Intelligence to web browsing

Mozilla has added a new “Shake to Summarize” feature to Firefox for iOS that generates AI-powered summaries of webpages. Users can trigger a summary by shaking their iPhone, tapping the thunderbolt (⚡) icon in the address bar, or selecting Summarize Page from the menu.

How it works

  • On supported devices (iPhone 15 Pro and newer with iOS 26+), summaries are generated on-device using Apple Intelligence.
  • Older iPhones or iOS versions will use Mozilla’s cloud-based AI fallback.
  • The feature summarizes pages under ~5,000 words and adapts to content type (e.g., recipes become steps; news becomes key takeaways).

Privacy & Control

Mozilla emphasizes privacy: when possible, processing happens on-device. Users can disable the feature in Firefox settings to avoid accidental activation.

Rollout

The feature began rolling out in the U.S. for English-language users in early September 2025, with plans to expand to more regions, languages and eventually Android.

Quick Tips

  • Activate: shake phone / tap ⚡ / Menu → Summarize Page
  • Disable: Firefox Settings → Features (disable Shake to Summarize)
  • Best for: long articles, guides, research pages
