Yoshi and the Mysterious Book — Nintendo Switch 2 (Spring 2026)
Nintendo announced Yoshi and the Mysterious Book for the Nintendo Switch 2 during its September 2025 Nintendo Direct celebrating the Mario 40th anniversary. The game is slated for Spring 2026.
What we know
- Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
- Release window: Spring 2026
- Genre: 2D platformer with exploration and light puzzle elements
- Core hook: Yoshi explores worlds inside a storybook called Mr. Encyclopedia, cataloging creatures whose unique abilities help you progress through levels.
Gameplay & style
The trailer shows a charming, arts-and-crafts-inspired visual style that continues the creative tradition of previous Yoshi titles (think Yoshi’s Island-era gameplay with modern tweaks). Players will recruit small creatures and plants whose powers (for example, making flowers bloom or weakening rocks) are used to solve platforming puzzles and reach new areas.
Why it matters
Yoshi & team have a long history of inventive, kid-friendly platforming. This new entry looks to blend that approachable aesthetic with new mechanics built around exploration and cataloging, while retaining the series’ trademark charm.
