PS5 Update Rolling Out Sept 17: DualSense Multi-Device Pairing & New Power Saver
Sony’s PS5 system update (rolling out Sept 17) adds two major features:
- DualSense multi-device pairing — Assign one of the action buttons (triangle △, circle ○, cross ✕, square □) to up to four devices, then switch instantly by holding the PS button + that action button. No more unpairing/re-pairing when moving between your console and PC, phone, or tablet.
- Power Saver mode — A new energy-saving option in System Settings called Power Saver that reduces energy usage by scaling back performance in supported games. Games must add support; initial titles include Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei.
How to set up DualSense multi-device pairing
- With the DualSense powered off, press and hold the PS button and one action button (△/○/✕/□) for >5 seconds.
- The light bar and touchpad LED will flash twice.
- Open the Bluetooth settings on the target device and pair the controller.
- Repeat to assign each of the four buttons to different devices.
- To switch, hold the PS button + the device’s assigned action button.
Compatibility
DualSense controllers are compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS and Android.
Power Saver: what to expect
Power Saver will reduce energy consumption by scaling back performance for supported games. Sony notes that unless you enable the option (or a game supports it), performance will remain unchanged. This gives players a choice between maximum performance and lower power use.
