iOS 26 brings Adaptive Temperature to the Home app

iOS 26: Adaptive Temperature in the Home app

With iOS 26, Apple has introduced Adaptive Temperature in the Home app. The feature automatically adjusts compatible thermostats based on household presence states to save energy and keep your home comfortable.

How it works

  • Presence states: “Home”, “Away”, and “Extended Away” (longer absence) determine temperature profiles.
  • Predict Arrival: Uses schedules, Apple Maps, Calendar and routines to precondition the home before someone arrives.
  • Activity History: The Home app logs state changes (not precise individual locations) for transparency.
  • Room-level support: If you have compatible occupancy sensors or room-based accessories, Adaptive Temperature can adjust by room.

Enabling and compatibility

Enable it in the Home app by selecting your thermostat, opening its settings, and turning on Adaptive Temperature. Note that some thermostats may require firmware updates from manufacturers to be fully compatible.
