Apple reportedly shifts focus from Vision Pro to smart glasses — what’s next?

Apple reportedly shifts staff from Vision Pro to smart glasses

Recent reporting (Mark Gurman / Bloomberg summarized by multiple outlets) says Apple has pulled some staff from a planned Vision Pro refresh to accelerate development of consumer smart glasses that can compete with Meta/Ray-Ban. Two models are reportedly in development:

  • N50: A lightweight, lower-cost model with no onboard display that pairs with the iPhone. Expected launch: around 2027.
  • AR-display model: A glasses-style device with an augmented-reality display that was targeted for 2028 but may be expedited to launch earlier.

Key features reportedly planned:

  • New custom Apple chip
  • Speakers and microphones for voice interaction
  • Cameras for photos and video capture
  • Health-tracking sensors
  • Deep integration with Siri and an upcoming Siri LLM update for richer AI-driven voice commands

Apple has not abandoned the Vision Pro, but the cheaper/lighter redesign has been deprioritized in favor of these glasses, reportedly to better compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban devices. There are no official Apple smart-glasses products for sale yet, so no retailer product pages were found.
