Kingmakers Early Access delayed indefinitely
Redemption Road Games has postponed the Early Access launch of Kingmakers, originally planned for October 8. The studio says the launch “will no longer be possible” on that date and that they need “a bit more time on content polish before we feel good about charging money for it.” No new release date has been announced.
Kingmakers has drawn attention for its unusual blend of a medieval setting with modern weapons, massive AI-driven battles and ambitious tech goals. The developers emphasize they won’t cut planned features just to ship earlier and are pushing Unreal Engine 4 to its limits to deliver true 60fps on midrange PCs. They claim the game will feature tens of thousands of soldiers with real AI and pathfinding, and battles that continue to play out when you leave the immediate area.
“With Kingmakers, we set out to push the Unreal Engine 4 codebase to its absolute limits, while still providing true 60fps to midrange PCs, without the need for fake frames… We are an 80% engineering team… We currently have tens of thousands of soldiers, each with AI and pathfinding that rivals what you’d expect from a AAA third person shooter. When you walk away from a battle, it continues to play out. Nothing is faked.”
The developers also announced they will present a half-hour deep dive on Kingmakers gameplay soon to show what they’ve been working on. For official updates and to wishlist the game, see the Steam store page below.
