Apple winds down Clips — export your videos before it’s gone

Apple has stopped updating Clips and removed it from the App Store for new users. Existing iPhone and iPad users who previously downloaded the app can still redownload it from their Apple account for now, but Apple hasn’t said how long access will remain.

Clips, introduced in 2017, offered a set of mobile video-editing tools aimed at social-video creation. Over time many of Clips’ features became standard within social apps and other video editors, and adoption never became widespread.

What you should do

  • Open Clips and save or export any projects you want to keep — Apple recommends saving videos to your Photos library or another safe location.
  • If you lose access to Clips later, you can try redownloading it from your Apple account in the App Store if you previously downloaded it.
  • Consider switching to popular mobile editors (e.g., iMovie, InShot, CapCut) or built-in social-app editors for social video creation.
