Luigi’s Mansion (2001) arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 Oct 30 via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Nintendo is bringing the original Luigi’s Mansion (2001) to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 30, just in time for Halloween. The title joins the GameCube classics library within Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which is exclusive to Switch 2 for GameCube content.
What’s included and what you need
- Launch date: October 30.
- Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 only for GameCube titles within the NSO streaming library.
- Subscription: Requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (about $50/year). The basic NSO plan ($20/year) does not include GameCube, Nintendo 64, or Game Boy Advance classics.
- Series completeness: With Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Luigi’s Mansion 3 already compatible, the entire series is now playable on Switch 2.
A quick refresher on the original
- Debut: Launched in 2001 as a GameCube launch title and the first Mario franchise game on that system.
- Premise: Luigi wins a mysterious mansion he never entered to win, then explores room by room, busting ghosts and solving puzzles to unlock new areas.
- Reception: Sold around 257,000 units in its first week; top-selling GameCube launch game.
- Remake: Remade for the Nintendo 3DS in 2018.
Why it matters
- Halloween timing: A classic spooky-adventure returns right before the big night.
- Preservation + access: NSO + Expansion Pack continues to expand legacy libraries for modern hardware.
- Full trilogy on one system: Fans can now play Luigi’s Mansion, LM2 HD, and LM3 all on Switch 2.

Tip: If you haven’t subscribed yet, double-check which plan you’re on (basic NSO vs. Expansion Pack) before launch day to ensure access to the GameCube catalog on Switch 2.
Discussion: Will you revisit Luigi’s first ghost hunt on Switch 2 at launch, or wait for more GameCube classics to join the NSO library?
