Pinterest launches Pinterest Assistant — AI-powered, personalized visual search
Pinterest is rolling out Pinterest Assistant, a new AI-powered feature that helps users discover clothes, furniture and other inspiration based on their saved Pins and boards. Designed for open-ended, discovery-style queries, the Assistant analyzes your activity and similar tastes across the platform to surface visuals tailored to you.
The main interaction method is voice: tap the mic icon in the Pinterest app, speak a broad request (for example, “pillows that match my living room decor”), and the Assistant will use that audio prompt plus your saved content to find suitable results. Pinterest emphasizes the multimodal approach — combining voice and visual signals — to make browsing feel closer to real-world shopping.
How Pinterest Assistant works
- Personalized results: The Assistant looks at your saved Pins and boards, compares them with users who have similar tastes, and surfaces items that match your style.
- Voice-first search: Start a search by tapping the mic icon — voice prompts are ideal for open-ended or exploratory queries.
- Multimodal filtering: The AI filters and ranks visual content, prioritizing results that fit your existing collections and preferences.
Context & user controls
Pinterest has been grappling with a rise in AI-generated content on the platform, which some users say makes it harder to find real, shoppable items. Earlier this year the company began labeling AI-generated Pins and added controls to reduce how much AI content users see. Pinterest Assistant won’t automatically fix the broader AI-content challenge, but its personalized approach may help users find tangible items more efficiently.
The Assistant is entering beta for US users aged 18+ with wider availability expected in the coming weeks and months. If you want to try it, open the Pinterest app and look for the mic icon to get started.

Discussion: Would you use a voice-driven, AI-powered Assistant to find decor or fashion ideas based on your Pins — or do you prefer traditional search and browsing? What trust or transparency features would make you more comfortable using it?
