Sony launches official 27″ 240Hz PlayStation monitor with DualSense charging hook

Sony’s new 27″ PlayStation monitor: 240Hz, HDR, VRR and a DualSense charging hook

Gaming monitor on a desk

Sony revealed a new official PlayStation monitor during its State of Play Japan showcase. The 27-inch QHD display supports a 240Hz refresh rate, HDR and variable refresh rate (VRR), and includes a built-in charging hook for your DualSense controller that folds down from the rear of the monitor.

Despite the 240Hz panel, Sony limits PS5 gaming to 120Hz — the higher refresh rate is primarily aimed at PC gamers. The monitor will be available in the US and Japan sometime next year; Sony has not announced pricing yet.

Key specs and features

  • Display: 27-inch QHD (2560×1440)
  • Refresh rate: Up to 240Hz (PC); PS5 capped at 120Hz
  • HDR & VRR: Support for HDR and variable refresh rate
  • DualSense charging hook: Fold‑down hook at the back to hold and charge a DualSense controller
  • Availability: US and Japan in 2026 (exact date and price TBA)

Why this matters

The monitor signals Sony’s deeper push into PC‑adjacent hardware and accessories. With 240Hz support, the display appeals directly to high‑refresh gaming on PC while keeping tight PlayStation integration via the charging hook and optimized PS5 compatibility. For players who switch between PC and console, the monitor aims to be a convenient all‑in‑one solution.

Related hardware

Sony also announced Pulse Elevate portable desktop speakers earlier in September and plans their release in 2026. Additionally, Sony has improved DualSense pairing between devices, making it easier to switch controllers between a PS5 and a PC.

Considerations before buying

  • PS5 users should note the 120Hz cap for console gaming despite the 240Hz panel.
  • Check port selection and PC compatibility (DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1, G‑Sync/FreeSync support) once Sony releases full specs.
  • Charging hook is a convenient gimmick, but battery charging speed and whether it supports wired charging standards should be verified in hands‑on reviews.

Discussion: Would you buy Sony’s official monitor for a combined PC/PS5 setup, or prefer a third‑party display with broader PC/console parity? What specs matter most to you in a gaming monitor?
