HomePod mini: „Midnight“ Replaces „Space Grey“ as the Dark Color Option
Apple has replaced the dark „Space Grey“ variant of the HomePod mini with a new color called „Midnight“. Don’t worry if you’re having a hard time spotting the difference visually, as it is quite minimal. The performance specifications of the small Siri speaker remain unchanged, as far as we know. The most significant update is that the dark version of the HomePod mini now features a mesh fabric made entirely from recycled materials.
Apple’s press release regarding this makes it seem as though the „Space Grey“ color never existed for the HomePod mini. It only mentions that Apple is expanding the HomePod mini’s color range—which includes Yellow, Orange, Blue, and White—to now include „Midnight“.
The new version of the HomePod mini is already available for order on Apple’s website, with deliveries starting from Wednesday. The price remains at 109 Euros regardless of the chosen color. However, it might be worth keeping an eye out in the next few days. Retailers like MediaMarkt are still offering the „Space Grey“ model, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the price of the previous version is reduced soon in light of the new release.
Large HomePod Also Embraces Recycled Materials
The „Midnight“ color option has been available for the larger HomePod for about a year and a half. When Apple introduced the second generation of the larger HomePod early last year, this new variant was available from the start alongside „White“, while „Space Grey“ was absent. The reason behind this seems to be the fact that the dark version’s mesh fabric is made from 100% recycled materials, a shift that has led to the disappearance of „Space Grey“ from the original HomePod lineup.
