### HP Easy Scan: Four Years Without an Update, Now One with Problems
When we last delved into HP’s offered application, HP Easy Scan, the version available for download from the Mac App Store had been waiting for an update for a year. Our focus on the application at that time was triggered by issues it faced when running under macOS Big Sur, which by the arrival of macOS Ventura, resulted in the app producing completely blank pages, rendering the preview of scanning results impossible.
#### A Long-Awaited Version 2.0
Despite initial concerns, no action was taken for quite a while. The official HP download, which supports numerous scanners and multi-function models from the provider, had to wait four long years, until February 2024, before Hewlett-Packard updated the desktop application.
Now, HP Easy Scan version 2.0 is available for download from the Mac App Store, aiming to bring compatibility with macOS 13 and macOS 14. Yet, instead of celebration in the community forums of the provider and at Apple, the substantial update has mainly sparked reports of problems.
According to the initial accounts reported to ifun.de, the application crashes immediately after the update and does not allow operation with existing peripherals. This issue has been echoed multiple times across the internet.
#### Immediate Crash After App Launch
Official HP responses can also be found, recommending a complete uninstallation of HP Easy Scan and subsequent reinstallation of all devices. However, feedback on this solution so far remains discouraging.
Reports from the Apple and HP communities highlight the inability to open the HP Easy Scan app or its crashing on MacOS Sonoma.
For those who haven’t downloaded the update yet, it might be wise to wait cautiously. It’s advisable to steer clear of the official Mac download from the provider until a new update addressing these issues is released, which, based on past experience, could take some time.
