Apple TV+ features Michael Douglas as Benjamin Franklin

Michael Douglas Stars as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV+’s Latest Production

Apple TV+ is gearing up for the premiere of its next star-studded production, „Franklin,“ featuring the multi-award-winning actor Michael Douglas. Not only does Douglas play the lead role in this eagerly awaited series, but he also serves as a producer, adding another feather to his cap. Starting April 12, subscribers to Apple’s video service will have the opportunity to dive into this compelling narrative.

To build anticipation for the series‘ debut, Apple has launched a promotional campaign, including releasing a trailer that offers a two-and-a-half-minute glimpse into the setting and tone of this historical drama. Fans and history buffs alike are eager to see how the story unfolds onscreen.

„Franklin“ is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book „A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America“ by Stacy Schiff. This work explores a pivotal chapter in American history, delving into Benjamin Franklin’s significant contributions as one of the founding fathers of the United States.

The series focuses on a remarkable period in Franklin’s life when he, originally an inventor, played a crucial role as an American envoy in negotiating the 1783 Treaty of Paris, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War. Despite being 70 years old and lacking formal diplomatic training, Franklin managed to persuade his French counterparts to support the fledgling American democracy. His eight-year mission in France is at the heart of this new Apple TV+ series.

„Franklin“ boasts a strong cast, including Noah Jupe („A Quiet Place“), Daniel Mays („Line of Duty“), and Ludivine Sagnier („Lupin“), alongside Michael Douglas in the titular role. The production team features industry luminaries like Kirk Ellis, Howard Korder, and Tim Van Patten, all decorated with prestigious awards, including Emmys and Pulitzers, for their previous work.

The TV series comprises eight episodes, set to be released between April 12 and May 17, with new episodes available each Friday exclusively on Apple TV+. In a move to excite audiences, Apple plans to release the first three episodes all at once on the premiere day.

This much-anticipated series promises to not only delve deep into the life of one of America’s most intriguing historical figures but also to portray the complex diplomatic endeavors that helped shape a nation. With a combination of stellar casting, expert production, and historical depth, „Franklin“ is poised to be a must-watch for anyone interested in the essence of American history and the art of negotiation and diplomacy.
